As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 12121, It is Iowa's 64th most populous county. It is spread over 505.48 mi˛ (1309.19 sq km), of which, 504.64 square miles (1307.01 sq km ) of it is land and 0.84 square miles (2.18 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 30th smallest by total area in Iowa.
