The July 2008 population estimate is 2742, It is Kansas's 16th least populous county. It covers total area of 1020.84 square miles (2643.96 sq km), of which, 1019.88 square miles (2641.48 sq km) of it is land and 0.95 square miles (2.46 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 15th largest by total area in Kansas.
