Chestertown Town is a one of the Kent County, Maryland, located in Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. The population of the town was 4746 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 4899, making it the 177th most populous in Maryland. It has total area of 2.82 mi˛ (7.3 square kilometre), of which, 2.61 square miles (6.76 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.2 square miles (0.52 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 121st smallest by area in the U.S. state of Maryland.

As of the census of 2000, there were 4746 people, 1891 households, and 945 families living in the town. The population density was 1818.1 people per square mile (701.97/km˛), it is Maryland's 177th most densely populated town. There were 2164 housing units at an average density of 829.1 per square mile (320.12/km˛). The average household size was 1.96 persons, and the average family size was 2.61 persons. In the town the population was spread out, with 13.4% under the age of 18, 25.6% from 18 to 24, 18.5% from 25 to 44, 18.2% from 45 to 64, and 24.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 75 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 71.6 males. The median age was 37.6 years, The median age of males was 34.8 years, for females the median age was 40 years. The racial makeup of the town was 74.46% White, 21.87% Black or African American, 0.15% American Indian, 1.62% Asian, 0.11% Native Hawaiian, 1.39% from two or more races and 0.4% Other races.
