Chester Borough, New Jersey is a borough of the Morris County, New Jersey, United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 1635 inhabitants. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 1678, making it the 70th least populous in New Jersey. The borough has a total area of 1.54 mi˛ (3.99 sq km), it is the 159th smallest by area in the U.S. state of New Jersey.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1635 residents, 457 households, and 284 families in the borough. The population density was 1063 people per square mile (410.43/km˛), it would be the 82nd least densely populated borough in the U.S. state of New Jersey. There were 627 housing units at an average density of 407.1 per square mile (157.18/km˛). The average household size was 2.66 persons, and the average family size was 3.15 persons. In the Chester Borough, 24.8% of the population was under the age of 18, 5.7% were 18 to 24, 30% were 25 to 44, 25.8% were 45 to 64, and 13.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 100.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.7 males. The median age was 39.1 years, the median age of male residents at 37.1 and the median age of female residents at 40.8. The racial makeup of the borough was 94.68% White, 0.8% Black or African American, 0% American Indian, 1.71% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, 0.8% from two or more races and 2.02% Other races.
