Cherokee County, Kansas is a county of the United States of Kansas. As of 2000 the population was 22605. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 21082, making it Kansas's 27th largest county. It is spread over 590.96 square miles (1530.58 sq km), of which, 587.12 square miles (1520.63 sq km ) of it is land and 3.85 square miles (9.97 sq km) of it is water, it is the 21st smallest by area in the U.S. state of Kansas.

It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 21082, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 19307 White, 173 Black or African American, 804 American Indian, 78 Asian, 9 Native Hawaiian, and 711 from two or more races.
