Chemung County is a United States county located in the United States of New York. In 2000, the population was 91070. The July 2008 population estimate is 87813, It is the 32nd largest in terms of population. It has total area of 410.79 sq mi (1063.94 kmē), of which, 408.17 square miles (1057.16 kmē) of it is land and 2.62 square miles (6.79 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 13th smallest by total area among New York's county.

As of the census of 2000, there were 91070 people in the county, organized into 35049 households, and 23280 families living in the county. The population density was 223.1 people per square mile (86.14/kmē), giving it the 22nd most densely populated county among the New York. There were 37745 housing units at an average density of 92.5 per square mile (35.71/kmē). The average household size was 2.44 and the average family size was 2.97. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 24.4% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 28.3% from 25 to 44, 22.9% from 45 to 64, and 15.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.3 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 87813, The racial makeup of the county was 79491 White, 5561 Black or African American, 235 American Indian, 1001 Asian, 17 Native Hawaiian, and 1508 from two or more races.
