Checotah City is a city in the McIntosh County, Oklahoma, United States. In 2000, city's population was 3481 inhabitants. The July 2008 population estimate is 3469, It is 94th most populous in Oklahoma. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 9.01 mi˛ (23.34 sq km), of which, 8.94 square miles (23.15 sq km) of it is land and 0.06 square miles (0.16 sq km) of it is water, it is the 117th largest by area in the U.S. state of Oklahoma.

As of the census of 2000, there were 3481 people, 1389 households, and 913 families residing in the city. The population density was 389.3 people per square mile (150.31/km˛), it is the 430th most densely populated city in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. There were 1576 housing units at an average density of 176.3 per square mile (68.07/km˛). The average household size was 2.39 people, and the average family size was 2.98 people. In the city the population was spread out, with 26.1% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 23.7% from 25 to 44, 20.3% from 45 to 64, and 21.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 128.7 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 137.9 females. The median age was 38.7 years, the median age of male residents at 35.8 and the median age of female residents at 41.3. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 2364 White, 241 Black or African American, 554 American Indian, 8 Asian, 3 Native Hawaiian, 297 from two or more races and 14 Ohter races.
