Cheboygan County is one of the 83 county of Michigan, located towards the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. The county has a population of 26448 as per the 2000 census data. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 26354, It is the 53rd most populous county in the U.S. state of Michigan. The county spans an area of 885.23 sq mi (2292.74 sq km), of which, 715.6 square miles (1853.4 sq km) of it is land and 169.63 square miles (439.34 sq km) of it is water, making it Michigan's 33rd largest county by total area.

The population density was 37 people per square mile (14.29/kmē), it is the 24th least populated county in terms of population density. There were 16583 housing units at an average density of 23.2 per square mile (8.96/kmē). The average household size was 2.41 persons, and the average family size was 2.87 persons. In the Cheboygan County, 23.7% of the population was under the age of 18, 6.2% were 18 to 24, 25.8% were 25 to 44, 26.3% were 45 to 64, and 17.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.5 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 26354, The racial makeup of the county was 24893 White, 126 Black or African American, 712 American Indian, 56 Asian, 4 Native Hawaiian, and 563 from two or more races.
