Cheatham County is a county located in Tennessee, in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 35912. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 39396, It is Tennessee's 39th most populous county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 307.13 square miles (795.46 kmē), of which, 302.66 square miles (783.89 kmē) of it is land and 4.47 square miles (11.58 kmē) of it is water, it is the 21st smallest in terms of geographical size.

Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 39396, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 37726 White, 1031 Black or African American, 151 American Indian, 164 Asian, 20 Native Hawaiian, and 304 from two or more races.
