Cheatham County is a county located in Tennessee, in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 35912. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 39396, It is Tennessee's 39th most populous county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 307.13 square miles (795.46 kmē), of which, 302.66 square miles (783.89 kmē) of it is land and 4.47 square miles (11.58 kmē) of it is water, it is the 21st smallest in terms of geographical size.

The population density was 118.7 people per square mile (45.83/kmē), giving it the 23rd most densely populated county among the Tennessee. In the county the population was spread out, with 27.7% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 33.5% from 25 to 44, 23% from 45 to 64, and 8.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 99.7 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 102.7 females. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 39396, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 37726 White, 1031 Black or African American, 151 American Indian, 164 Asian, 20 Native Hawaiian, and 304 from two or more races.
