Charlton County is a county in the United States of Georgia. As of 2000 the population was 10282. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 10848, It is Georgia's 38th least populous county. The county spans an area of 782.97 square miles (2027.88 square kilometre), of which, 780.77 square miles (2022.19 square kilometre) of it is land and 2.2 square miles (5.7 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the fifth largest by size in Georgia.

As of the census of 2000, there were 10282 people in the county, organized into 3342 households, and 2499 families living in the county. The population density was 13.2 people per square mile (5.1/kmē), it is the seventh least densely populated county in the U.S. state of Georgia. There were 3859 housing units at an average density of 4.9 per square mile (1.89/kmē). The average household size was 2.74 people, and the average family size was 3.2 people. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 27.5% under the age of 18, 10.6% from 18 to 24, 31.7% from 25 to 44, 20.6% from 45 to 64, and 9.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 112.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 115.6 males. Its population was estimated at 10848 in July 2008, The racial makeup of the county was 7436 White, 3181 Black or African American, 48 American Indian, 38 Asian, 6 Native Hawaiian, and 139 from two or more races.
