Chariton City is a city located in the Lucas County, Iowa, United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 4573 inhabitants. The city comprises an area of 3.69 mi˛ (9.56 square kilometre), it is the 106th largest by area in the U.S. state of Iowa.
