As of July 2008, the estimated population was 193636, It is Illinois's 11th most populous county. It has total area of 997.53 mi˛ (2583.59 square kilometre), of which, 996.81 square miles (2581.73 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.73 square miles (1.89 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the seventh largest by total area in Illinois.
