Cedar County is a county located in Iowa, in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 18187. The July 2008 population estimate is 18079, It is the 38th largest county by population in the U.S. state of Iowa. The county has a total area of 581.96 square miles (1507.27 square kilometre), of which, 579.52 square miles (1500.95 square kilometre) of it is land and 2.44 square miles (6.32 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 31st largest in terms of geographical size.

The population density was 31.4 people per square mile (12.12/kmē), making its Iowa's 42nd most densely populated county. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 25.3% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 27.7% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.6 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 18079, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 17769 White, 78 Black or African American, 36 American Indian, 71 Asian, 5 Native Hawaiian, and 120 from two or more races.
