Cedar County is a county located in Iowa, in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 18187. The July 2008 population estimate is 18079, It is the 38th largest county by population in the U.S. state of Iowa. The county has a total area of 581.96 square miles (1507.27 square kilometre), of which, 579.52 square miles (1500.95 square kilometre) of it is land and 2.44 square miles (6.32 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 31st largest in terms of geographical size.

It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 18079, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 17769 White, 78 Black or African American, 36 American Indian, 71 Asian, 5 Native Hawaiian, and 120 from two or more races.
