Cayuga County is a one of the county from New York's 62 counties, located in Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. In 2000, the population was 81963. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 79823, It is the 34th largest county by population in the U.S. state of New York. The county comprises an area of 863.64 square miles (2236.82 sq km), of which, 693.18 square miles (1795.33 sq km) of it is land and 170.46 square miles (441.49 sq km) of it is water, making it the 26th largest by size in New York. It is ranks tenth in the size of its inland waterways in New York.

As of the census of 2000, there were 81963 people in the county, organized into 30558 households, and 20829 families residing in the county. The population density was 118.2 people per square mile (45.64/kmē), giving it the 32nd most densely populated county among the New York. There were 35477 housing units at an average density of 51.2 per square mile (19.77/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.53 persons, and the average family size was 3.04 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 25.1% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 29.7% from 25 to 44, 22.6% from 45 to 64, and 14.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 102.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.8 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 79823, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 74816 White, 3346 Black or African American, 317 American Indian, 386 Asian, 21 Native Hawaiian, and 937 from two or more races.
