Cattaraugus County is a county in the United States of New York. As of 2000 the population was 83955. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 79688, It is the 35th largest in terms of population. The county extends throughout a territory of 1322.25 sq mi (3424.61 sq km ), of which, 1309.85 square miles (3392.5 sq km) of it is land and 12.4 square miles (32.12 sq km) of it is water, it is the 13th largest by area in the U.S. state of New York.

As of the census of 2000, there were 83955 people in the county, organized into 32023 households, and 21662 families residing in the county. The population density was 64.1 people per square mile (24.75/kmē), making it the 13th least densely populated county in New York. There were 39839 housing units at an average density of 30.4 per square mile (11.74/kmē). The average household size was 2.52 people, and the average family size was 3.05 people. In the county Age distribution was 26.2% under the age of 18, 9.3% from 18 to 24, 26.5% from 25 to 44, 23.5% from 45 to 64, and 14.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 104.2 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 108.1 females. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 79688, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 93.71% White, 1.3% Black or African American, 3.1% American Indian, 0.62% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 1.25% from two or more races.
