Catlettsburg City is a city located in Boyd County, Kentucky, in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. The city has a population of 1960 as per the 2000 census data. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 1938, It is the 169th largest by population in the U.S. state of Kentucky. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.65 square miles (4.27 sq km), of which, 1.28 square miles (3.32 sq km) of it is land and 0.37 square miles (0.96 sq km) of it is water, making it the 205th largest by size in Kentucky.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 1960 residents, 827 households, and 519 families in the city. The population density was 1528.8 people per square mile (590.27/kmē), making its Kentucky's 166th most densely populated city. There were 959 housing units at an average density of 749.2 per square mile (289.27/kmē). The average household size was 2.25 persons, and the average family size was 2.85 persons. In the Catlettsburg City, 20.4% of the population was under the age of 18, 10.4% were 18 to 24, 28.1% were 25 to 44, 24.2% were 45 to 64, and 16.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 94.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.7 males.
