According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Catawba County is home to 141685 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 157079, It is the 15th most populous county in the U.S. state of North Carolina. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 413.51 miē (1070.99 kmē), of which, 399.97 square miles (1035.92 kmē) of it is land and 13.54 square miles (35.07 kmē) of it is water, it is the 65th largest by area in the U.S. state of North Carolina.
