Castro County, Texas is a county of the United States of Texas. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 8285 inhabitants. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 7129, It is the 68th smallest in terms of population. The county extends throughout a territory of 899.32 sq mi (2329.23 sq km ), of which, 898.31 square miles (2326.61 sq km) of it is land and 1 square miles (2.59 sq km) of it is water, making it the 168th largest by size in Texas.

In the county Population was distributed with 33.1% under the age of 18, 9% from 18 to 24, 24.3% from 25 to 44, 20.9% from 45 to 64, and 12.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 100.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.2 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 7129, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 94.36% White, 2.96% Black or African American, 1.95% American Indian, 0.03% Asian, 0.08% Native Hawaiian, and 0.62% from two or more races.
