Cass County, Indiana is a county located in the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 40930 inhabitants. In July 2008, its estimated population was 39123, It is the 37th largest county by population in the U.S. state of Indiana. The county encompasses an area of 414.92 sq mi (1074.64 sq km ), of which, 412.87 square miles (1069.33 sq km) of it is land and 2.06 square miles (5.34 sq km) of it is water, it is the 33rd largest by area in the U.S. state of Indiana.

As of the census of 2000, there were 40930 people in the county, organized into 15715 households, and 10928 families residing in the county. The population density was 99.1 people per square mile (38.26/kmē), making its Indiana's 40th most densely populated county. There were 16620 housing units at an average density of 40.3 per square mile (15.56/kmē). The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.01. In the county Age distribution was 25.9% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 28.4% from 25 to 44, 22.6% from 45 to 64, and 14.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 99 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 103.2 females. Its population was estimated at 39123 in July 2008, The racial makeup of the county was 96.16% White, 1.6% Black or African American, 0.45% American Indian, 0.76% Asian, 0.06% Native Hawaiian, and 0.97% from two or more races.
