In July 2008, its estimated population was 19559, It is the 143rd largest by population in the U.S. state of Illinois. The city extends throughout a territory of 5.31 sq mi (13.75 sq km ), of which, 5.25 square miles (13.6 sq km) of it is land and 0.06 square miles (0.16 sq km) of it is water, making it the 207th largest by size in Illinois.
