Carter County is a county located in the United States of Kentucky. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Carter County is home to 26889 inhabitants. In July 2008, its estimated population was 27454, making it the 39th most populous county in Kentucky. The county spans an area of 412.15 square miles (1067.46 kmē), of which, 410.6 square miles (1063.45 kmē) of it is land and 1.55 square miles (4.01 kmē) of it is water, making it Kentucky's 32nd largest county by total area.
