Carson County is a county located in the United States of Texas. The population of the county was 6516 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 6251, It is 63rd least populous county in Texas. It is spread over 924.1 square miles (2393.41 square kilometre), of which, 923.19 square miles (2391.05 square kilometre ) of it is land and 0.91 square miles (2.36 square kilometre) of it is water, giving it the 119th largest by total area among Texas's county.

The population density was 7.1 people per square mile (2.74/kmē), making its Texas's 65th least densely populated county. There were 2815 housing units at an average density of 3 per square mile (1.16/kmē). The average household size was 2.6 people, and the average family size was 3.04 people. In the county the population was spread out, with 27.9% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 26.3% from 25 to 44, 23.9% from 45 to 64, and 15.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 104.4 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 108.4 females. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 6251, The racial makeup of the county was 6023 White, 87 Black or African American, 72 American Indian, 10 Asian, 1 Native Hawaiian, and 58 from two or more races.
