Carson City is a United States independent city located in the United States of Nevada. The independent city has a population of 52457 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 54867, making it the third most populous independent city in Nevada. It covers total area of 155.66 sq mi (403.16 square kilometre), of which, 143.35 square miles (371.27 square kilometre) of it is land and 12.31 square miles (31.88 square kilometre) of it is water, giving it the smallest by total area among Nevada's independent city.


According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 52457 people, 20171 households, and 13256 families living in the independent city. The population density was 365.9 people per square mile (141.27/kmē), it is most densely populated independent city in Nevada. There were 21283 housing units at an average density of 148.5 per square mile (57.34/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.44 persons, and the average family size was 2.97 persons. In the Carson City, 23.4% of the population was under the age of 18, 7.9% were 18 to 24, 28.9% were 25 to 44, 24.9% were 45 to 64, and 14.9% who were 65 or older.
