Carroll County is a county located in Mississippi, in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 10769 inhabitants. In July 2008, its estimated population was 10367, making it Mississippi's 12th smallest county. The county has a total area of 634.54 miē (1643.45 kmē), of which, 627.73 square miles (1625.81 kmē) of it is land and 6.81 square miles (17.64 kmē) of it is water, making it Mississippi's 31st largest county by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 10769 people, 4071 households, and 3068 families living in the county. The population density was 17.2 people per square mile (6.64/kmē), it is Mississippi's sixth least densely populated county. There were 4888 housing units at an average density of 7.8 per square mile (3.01/kmē). The average household size was 2.57 persons, and the average family size was 3.01 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 24.5% under the age of 18, 9.6% from 18 to 24, 26.7% from 25 to 44, 25.7% from 45 to 64, and 13.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 99.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 10367, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 6695 White, 3604 Black or African American, 7 American Indian, 17 Asian, 1 Native Hawaiian, and 43 from two or more races.
