Carroll County is one of the 99 county of Iowa, located towards the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Carroll County is home to 21421 inhabitants. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 20926, It is the 30th most populous county in the U.S. state of Iowa. It covers total area of 570.24 sq mi (1476.91 square kilometre), of which, 569.31 square miles (1474.51 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.92 square miles (2.38 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the 57th largest by total area in Iowa.

The population density was 37.6 people per square mile (14.52/kmē), it is Iowa's 28th most densely populated county. There were 9019 housing units at an average density of 15.8 per square mile (6.1/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.46 persons, and the average family size was 3.07 persons. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 26.9% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 25.9% from 25 to 44, 21% from 45 to 64, and 18.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 95.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 20926, The racial makeup of the county was 20662 White, 57 Black or African American, 31 American Indian, 89 Asian, 1 Native Hawaiian, and 86 from two or more races.
