Carlsbad City is one of the city of Eddy County, New Mexico, located towards the Western Region (Mountain) of United States. In 2000, city's population was 25625 inhabitants. Its population was estimated at 25629 in July 2008, It is the 11th most populous in the U.S. state of New Mexico. Its area is just over 28.41 square miles (73.58 square kilometre), of which, 28.37 square miles (73.48 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.05 square miles (0.13 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 12th largest by area in the U.S. state of New Mexico.

As of the census of 2000, there were 25625 residents, 457 households, and 284 families in the city. The population density was 903.3 people per square mile (348.77/kmē), it is 49th most densely populated city in New Mexico. There were 11421 housing units at an average density of 402.6 per square mile (155.44/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.51 persons, and the average family size was 3.03 persons. The population's age distribution was 27.1% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 24.7% from 25 to 44, 22.6% from 45 to 64, and 17.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 92.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.8 males. The median age is 37.7 years, the median age of male residents at 36 and the median age of female residents at 39.1. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 77.4% White, 2.2% Black or African American, 1.25% American Indian, 0.71% Asian, 0.08% Native Hawaiian, 2.52% from two or more races and 15.84% Other races.
