Carbondale City is a city located in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, in the Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. In 2000, the population was 9804. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 9208, giving it the 112th largest population among Pennsylvania. Its area is just over 3.24 sq mi (8.39 kmē), making it Pennsylvania's 198th largest by total area.

The population density was 3027.5 people per square mile (1168.92/kmē), it is the 388th most densely populated city in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 9662 White, 23 Black or African American, 20 American Indian, 23 Asian, Native Hawaiian, 51 from two or more races and 25 Ohter races.
