According to the 2000 census it had a population of 8022 inhabitants. It is the 185th most populous in the U.S. state of Maryland. The census designated place extends throughout a territory of 2.57 square miles (6.66 square kilometre ), of which, 1.97 square miles (5.1 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.6 square miles (1.55 square kilometre) of it is water, making it Maryland's 77th smallest by total area.
