Cape Girardeau County is a county in the United States of Missouri. As of 2000 the population was 68693. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 73243, It is the 16th largest in terms of population. The county extends throughout a territory of 586.29 mi˛ (1518.48 sq km ), of which, 578.62 square miles (1498.62 sq km) of it is land and 7.67 square miles (19.87 sq km) of it is water, it is the 60th largest by area in the U.S. state of Missouri.

As of the census of 2000, there were 68693 residents, 26980 households, and 17941 families in the county. The population density was 118.7 people per square mile (45.83/km˛), it is Missouri's 14th most densely populated county. There were 29434 housing units at an average density of 50.9 per square mile (19.65/km˛). It has an average household size was 2.42 persons, and the average family size was 2.96 persons. In the county Age distribution was 23.4% under the age of 18, 13.4% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 21.6% from 45 to 64, and 13.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 107.3 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 111.1 females. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 73243, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 91.24% White, 5.99% Black or African American, 0.39% American Indian, 1.02% Asian, 0.03% Native Hawaiian, and 1.33% from two or more races.
