Cape Charles Town is a United States town located in the Northampton County, Virginia, United States. Cape Charles Town had an official population of 1134 in 2000. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the town is 1464, making it the 242nd most populous in Virginia. The town extends throughout a territory of 4.36 square miles (11.29 square kilometre ), of which, 3.67 square miles (9.51 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.7 square miles (1.81 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 148th largest by size in Virginia.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1134 people, 536 households, and 278 families residing in the town. The population density was 309.4 people per square mile (119.46/kmē), giving it the 57th least densely populated town among the Virginia. There were 740 housing units at an average density of 201.6 per square mile (77.84/kmē). The average household size was 2.11 and the average family size was 2.91. The population's age distribution was 22.1% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 22% from 25 to 44, 25% from 45 to 64, and 23.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 76.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 75.9 males. The median age is 44.2 years, the median age of male residents at 44.3 and the median age of female residents at 44.1. The racial or ethnic makeup of the town was 53.79% White, 42.86% Black or African American, 0.09% American Indian, 0.44% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, 1.23% from two or more races and 1.59% Other races.
