Canyon County, Idaho


Canyon County is a county in the United States of Idaho. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 131441 inhabitants. Its population was estimated at 183939 in July 2008, making it Idaho's second largest county. The county comprises an area of 603.51 sq mi (1563.08 sq km), of which, 589.72 square miles (1527.37 sq km) of it is land and 13.79 square miles (35.72 sq km) of it is water, making it the seventh smallest by size in Idaho.

As of the census of 2000, there were 131441 people, 45018 households, and 33954 families living in the county. The population density was 222.9 people per square mile (86.06/kmē), it would be the second most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Idaho. There were 47965 housing units at an average density of 81.3 per square mile (31.39/kmē). The average household size was 2.85 people, and the average family size was 3.28 people. In the county the population was spread out, with 30.9% under the age of 18, 10.7% from 18 to 24, 28.3% from 25 to 44, 19.1% from 45 to 64, and 11% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.3 males. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 183939, The racial makeup of the county was 173666 White, 2619 Black or African American, 2008 American Indian, 1855 Asian, 400 Native Hawaiian, and 3391 from two or more races.
