Canton City, Lincoln County, South Dakota is a city located in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. In 2000, the population was 3110. In July 2008, its estimated population was 3633, It is the 23rd most populous in the U.S. state of South Dakota. It covers total area of 2.98 mi˛ (7.72 square kilometre), of which, 2.95 square miles (7.64 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.03 square miles (0.08 square kilometre) of it is water, making it South Dakota's 43rd largest by total area.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 3110 residents, 1209 households, and 825 families in the city. The population density was 1053.4 people per square mile (406.72/km˛), making its South Dakota's 92nd most densely populated city. There were 1286 housing units at an average density of 435.9 per square mile (168.3/km˛). The average household size was 2.49 persons, and the average family size was 3.07 persons. In the Canton City, 28.1% of the population was under the age of 18, 8% were 18 to 24, 27.6% were 25 to 44, 19.6% were 45 to 64, and 16.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 93.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.3 males. The median age was 36.2 years, the median age of male residents at 34.5 and the median age of female residents at 38.3.
