Canon City City is one of the city of Fremont County, Colorado, located towards the Western Region (Mountain) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 15431. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 15889, making it the 36th most populous in Colorado. The city extends throughout a territory of 12.03 mi˛ (31.16 square kilometre ), of which, 12.02 square miles (31.13 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 39th largest by area in the U.S. state of Colorado.

As of the census of 2000, there were 15431 residents, 6164 households, and 3805 families in the city. The population density was 1284.1 people per square mile (495.79/km˛), making its Colorado's 144th most densely populated city. There were 6617 housing units at an average density of 550.5 per square mile (212.55/km˛). The average household size was 2.27 persons, and the average family size was 2.9 persons. The population's age distribution was 23.5% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 21.5% from 45 to 64, and 20.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 100.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.3 males. The median age is 39.8 years, the median age of male residents at 38.2 and the median age of female residents at 41.7. The racial makeup of the city was 93.15% White, 1.59% Black or African American, 1.04% American Indian, 0.54% Asian, 0.06% Native Hawaiian, 2.01% from two or more races and 1.61% Other races.
