Calvert County is a one of the county from Maryland's 24 counties and independent city, located in Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 74563 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 88698, making it the 15th most populous county in Maryland. The county extends throughout a territory of 345.09 sq mi (893.78 sq km ), of which, 215.17 square miles (557.29 sq km) of it is land and 129.91 square miles (336.47 sq km) of it is water, it is the fourth smallest by area in the U.S. state of Maryland. It is ranks tenth in the size of its inland waterways in Maryland.

As of the census of 2000, there were 74563 people, 25447 households, and 20149 families residing in the county. The population density was 346.5 people per square mile (133.78/kmē), it is the eighth most populated county in terms of population density. There were 27576 housing units at an average density of 128.2 per square mile (49.5/kmē). The average household size was 2.91 people, and the average family size was 3.26 people. Age range in the county was well distributed with 29.6% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 31.7% from 25 to 44, 23.4% from 45 to 64, and 8.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 88698, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 82.3% White, 14.41% Black or African American, 0.32% American Indian, 1.29% Asian, 0.03% Native Hawaiian, and 1.64% from two or more races.
