California Borough, Pennsylvania


California Borough is a borough located in Washington County, Pennsylvania, in the Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 5274. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 6252, giving it the 266th largest population among Pennsylvania. It covers total area of 11.23 square miles (29.09 square kilometre), of which, 11.03 square miles (28.57 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.2 square miles (0.52 square kilometre) of it is water, giving it the 41st largest by total area among Pennsylvania.

As of the census of 2000, there were 5274 people in the borough, organized into 1891 households, and 868 families residing in the borough. The population density was 478.2 people per square mile (184.63/kmē), it is the 199th least densely populated borough in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. There were 2092 housing units at an average density of 189.7 per square mile (73.24/kmē). The average household size was 2.15 persons, and the average family size was 2.85 persons. In the borough the population was spread out, with 10.7% under the age of 18, 42.2% from 18 to 24, 17.3% from 25 to 44, 15.5% from 45 to 64, and 14.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 107.8 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 109.5 females. The median age of the borough's population was 23.7 years, the median age of male residents at 23.5 and the median age of female residents at 24.2. The racial makeup of the borough was 4954 White, 218 Black or African American, 9 American Indian, 39 Asian, Native Hawaiian, 47 from two or more races and 7 Ohter races.
