Calhoun County is a county located in the United States of West Virginia. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Calhoun County is home to 7582 inhabitants. In July 2008, its estimated population was 7212, It is the sixth smallest in terms of population. It has total area of 280.64 sq mi (726.85 kmē), of which, 280.62 square miles (726.8 kmē) of it is land and 0.02 square miles (0.05 kmē) of it is water, making it the tenth smallest by size in West Virginia.

The population density was 27 people per square mile (10.42/kmē), making it the 11th least densely populated county in West Virginia. There were 3848 housing units at an average density of 13.7 per square mile (5.29/kmē). The average household size was 2.46 people, and the average family size was 2.91 people. The population's age distribution was 22.4% under the age of 18, 8% from 18 to 24, 25.9% from 25 to 44, 27.1% from 45 to 64, and 16.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 99.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.3 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 7212, The racial makeup of the county was 98.96% White, 0.12% Black or African American, 0.31% American Indian, 0.11% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.49% from two or more races.
