Calhoun County is one of the 254 county of Texas, located towards the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 20647 inhabitants. The July 2008 population estimate is 20406, It is Texas's 115th most populous county. It is spread over 1032.16 square miles (2673.28 square kilometre), of which, 512.31 square miles (1326.88 square kilometre ) of it is land and 519.84 square miles (1346.38 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the 74th largest by total area in Texas. It is ranks first in the size of its inland waterways in Texas.

The population density was 40.3 people per square mile (15.56/kmē), making it the 77th most densely populated county in Texas. There were 10238 housing units at an average density of 20 per square mile (7.72/kmē). The average household size was 2.75 persons, and the average family size was 3.2 persons. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 28.5% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 27.3% from 25 to 44, 22.3% from 45 to 64, and 13.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 100.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.7 males. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 20406, The racial makeup of the county was 18676 White, 592 Black or African American, 125 American Indian, 817 Asian, 23 Native Hawaiian, and 173 from two or more races.
