Calhoun County is a one of the county from South Carolina's 46 counties, located in Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. The population of the county was 15185 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 14583, giving it the third smallest population among South Carolina's county. The county has a total area of 392.34 sq mi (1016.16 sq km), of which, 380.22 square miles (984.77 sq km) of it is land and 12.11 square miles (31.36 sq km) of it is water, making it South Carolina's smallest county by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 15185 people in the county, organized into 5917 households, and 4270 families living in the county. The population density was 39.9 people per square mile (15.41/kmē), making its South Carolina's eighth least densely populated county. There were 6864 housing units at an average density of 18.1 per square mile (6.99/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.54 persons, and the average family size was 3.03 persons. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 25.1% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 27% from 25 to 44, 26.7% from 45 to 64, and 13.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 90.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.4 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 14583, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 7753 White, 6663 Black or African American, 30 American Indian, 35 Asian, 4 Native Hawaiian, and 98 from two or more races.
