Calhoun County is a county located in the United States of Illinois. The county has a population of 5084 as per the 2000 census data. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 5101, It is Illinois's third least populous county. The county extends throughout a territory of 283.69 mi˛ (734.75 sq km ), of which, 253.82 square miles (657.39 sq km) of it is land and 29.87 square miles (77.36 sq km) of it is water, it is the tenth smallest by area in the U.S. state of Illinois. It is ranks third in the size of its inland waterways in Illinois.

As of the census of 2000, there were 5084 people, 2046 households, and 1439 families living in the county. The population density was 20 people per square mile (7.72/km˛), giving it the fifth least densely populated county among the Illinois. There were 2681 housing units at an average density of 10.6 per square mile (4.09/km˛). The average household size was 2.46 persons, and the average family size was 2.98 persons. In the county Age distribution was 22.9% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 25.9% from 25 to 44, 24.4% from 45 to 64, and 19.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 99.2 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 99.6 females. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 5101, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 98.94% White, 0.1% Black or African American, 0.31% American Indian, 0.14% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, and 0.51% from two or more races.
