Caldwell Parish is one of the 64 parish of Louisiana, located towards the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 10560. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the parish is 10353, It is Louisiana's fifth least populous parish. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the parish has a total area of 540.72 square miles (1400.46 kmē), of which, 529.42 square miles (1371.19 kmē) of it is land and 11.3 square miles (29.27 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 17th smallest by total area among Louisiana's parish.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 10560 residents, 3941 households, and 2819 families in the parish. The population density was 19.9 people per square mile (7.68/kmē), making its Louisiana's sixth least densely populated parish. There were 5035 housing units at an average density of 9.5 per square mile (3.67/kmē). The average household size was 2.5 people, and the average family size was 2.99 people. In the parish the population was spread out, with 24.7% under the age of 18, 9.6% from 18 to 24, 28.5% from 25 to 44, 23.3% from 45 to 64, and 13.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 103 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.2 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the parish is 10353, The racial makeup of the parish was 8367 White, 1847 Black or African American, 50 American Indian, 14 Asian, 0 Native Hawaiian, and 75 from two or more races.
