Calcasieu Parish is one of the 64 parish of Louisiana, located towards the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. The population of parish in 2000 stood at 183577 as per the Census data. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the parish is 185618, It is seventh most populous parish in Louisiana. The parish has a total area of 1094.34 miē (2834.33 kmē), of which, 1071.12 square miles (2774.19 kmē) of it is land and 23.22 square miles (60.14 kmē) of it is water, makes it the 13th largest by total area in Louisiana.

The population density was 171.4 people per square mile (66.18/kmē), it is Louisiana's tenth most densely populated parish. There were 75995 housing units at an average density of 70.9 per square mile (27.37/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.61 persons, and the average family size was 3.11 persons. Age range in the parish was well distributed with 27.4% under the age of 18, 10.3% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 21.8% from 45 to 64, and 11.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 94.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.3 males. The parish's estimated population as of July 2008 was 185618, The racial makeup of the parish was 135734 White, 45657 Black or African American, 643 American Indian, 1464 Asian, 64 Native Hawaiian, and 2056 from two or more races.
