As of July 2008, the estimated population of the city is 10245, It is 116th most populous in Michigan. Its area is just over 8.6 sq mi (22.27 square kilometre), of which, 6.82 square miles (17.66 square kilometre) of it is land and 1.78 square miles (4.61 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the 74th largest by total area in Michigan.
