Butts County, Georgia is a county located in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 19522 inhabitants. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 24423, It is Georgia's 73rd most populous county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 190.01 miē (492.12 kmē), of which, 186.61 square miles (483.32 kmē) of it is land and 3.4 square miles (8.81 kmē) of it is water, it is the 16th smallest by area in the U.S. state of Georgia.


As of the census of 2000, there were 19522 people in the county, organized into 6455 households, and 4867 families residing in the county. The population density was 104.6 people per square mile (40.39/kmē), it would be the 47th most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Georgia. There were 7380 housing units at an average density of 39.5 per square mile (15.25/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.73 persons, and the average family size was 3.15 persons. In the county Age distribution was 24.1% under the age of 18, 9.2% from 18 to 24, 33% from 25 to 44, 23.5% from 45 to 64, and 10.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 87.7 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 84.9 females. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 24423, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 72.12% White, 26.04% Black or African American, 0.4% American Indian, 0.41% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 1.02% from two or more races.
