Butte County is a one of the county from Idaho's 44 counties, located in Western Region (Mountain) of United States. Butte County had an official population of 2899 in 2000. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 2751, making it the third least populous county in Idaho. The county comprises an area of 2233.59 sq mi (5784.97 square kilometre), of which, 2232.85 square miles (5783.05 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.74 square miles (1.92 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 11th largest in terms of geographical size.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 2899 residents, 1089 households, and 803 families in the county. The population density was 1.3 people per square mile (0.5/kmē), it is the fourth least populated county in terms of population density. There were 1290 housing units at an average density of 0.6 per square mile (0.23/kmē). The average household size was 2.64 and the average family size was 3.14. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 29% under the age of 18, 6.3% from 18 to 24, 24% from 25 to 44, 25.7% from 45 to 64, and 14.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 101.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.3 males. The July 2008 population estimate is 2751, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 96.76% White, 0.29% Black or African American, 0.84% American Indian, 0.25% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, and 1.85% from two or more races.
