Butte County is a United States county located in the United States of California. Butte County had an official population of 203171 in 2000. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 220337, It is the 27th most populous county in the U.S. state of California. The county comprises an area of 1677.11 sq mi (4343.69 square kilometre), of which, 1639.49 square miles (4246.26 square kilometre) of it is land and 37.62 square miles (97.44 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 29th largest by area in the U.S. state of California.
