Butte-silver Bow (balance) is a city located in Silver Bow County, Montana, in the Western Region (Mountain) of United States. The population of city in 2000 stood at 33892 as per the Census data. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 32119, It is the fourth largest in terms of population. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 716.78 mi˛ (1856.45 sq km), of which, 716.11 square miles (1854.72 sq km) of it is land and 0.66 square miles (1.71 sq km) of it is water, giving it the second largest by total area among Montana. It is ranks seventh in the size of its inland waterways in Montana.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 33892 people, 14135 households, and 8736 families living in the city. The population density was 47.3 people per square mile (18.26/km˛), making it the 49th least densely populated city in Montana. There were 15833 housing units at an average density of 22.1 per square mile (8.53/km˛). The average household size was 2.32 people, and the average family size was 2.97 people. The population's age distribution was 23.7% under the age of 18, 9.6% from 18 to 24, 26.7% from 25 to 44, 23.9% from 45 to 64, and 16.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.2 males. The median age was 38.9 years, The median age of males was 37.5 years, for females the median age was 40.3 years. The racial makeup of the city was 32325 White, 53 Black or African American, 675 American Indian, 147 Asian, 21 Native Hawaiian, 471 from two or more races and 200 Ohter races.
