Butler County is one of the 93 county of Nebraska, located towards the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. The county has a population of 8767 as per the 2000 census data. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 8326, It is the 35th most populous county in the U.S. state of Nebraska. It is spread over 584.41 miē (1513.61 kmē), of which, 583.59 square miles (1511.49 kmē ) of it is land and 0.82 square miles (2.12 kmē) of it is water, it is the 44th largest by area in the U.S. state of Nebraska.

The population density was 15 people per square mile (5.79/kmē), it would be the 33rd most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Nebraska.
