Butler County is a one of the county from Missouri's 115 counties and independent city, located in Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 40867 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 41383, It is the 25th most populous county in the U.S. state of Missouri. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 698.97 miē (1810.32 kmē), of which, 697.54 square miles (1806.62 kmē) of it is land and 1.43 square miles (3.7 kmē) of it is water, making it Missouri's 31st largest county by total area.


According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 40867 people, 16718 households, and 11313 families living in the county. The population density was 58.6 people per square mile (22.63/kmē), it would be the 27th most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Missouri. There were 18707 housing units at an average density of 26.8 per square mile (10.35/kmē). The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 2.91. In the county Age distribution was 24.2% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 24.1% from 45 to 64, and 16.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 108.7 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 114.8 females. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 41383, The racial makeup of the county was 91.78% White, 5.4% Black or African American, 0.6% American Indian, 0.77% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 1.43% from two or more races.
