Burt County is a county located in the United States of Nebraska. In 2000, the population was 7791. Its population was estimated at 7023 in July 2008, making it the 43rd most populous county in Nebraska. The county spans an area of 497.1 square miles (1287.48 sq km), of which, 492.77 square miles (1276.27 sq km) of it is land and 4.33 square miles (11.21 sq km) of it is water, it is the 18th smallest by area in the U.S. state of Nebraska.

The population density was 15.8 people per square mile (6.1/kmē), giving it the 31st most densely populated county among the Nebraska. There were 3723 housing units at an average density of 7.6 per square mile (2.93/kmē). The average household size was 2.43 persons, and the average family size was 2.93 persons. In the county Age distribution was 25.7% under the age of 18, 5.4% from 18 to 24, 23.4% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 21.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 93.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.8 males. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 7023, The racial makeup of the county was 97.32% White, 0.24% Black or African American, 1.37% American Indian, 0.16% Asian, 0.03% Native Hawaiian, and 0.88% from two or more races.
