Burnett County is a one of the county from Wisconsin's 72 counties, located in Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. In 2000, the population was 15674. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 16196, making it the 12th least populous county in Wisconsin. It covers total area of 880.38 sq mi (2280.17 kmē), of which, 821.52 square miles (2127.73 kmē) of it is land and 58.86 square miles (152.45 kmē) of it is water, it is the 33rd largest in terms of geographical size.

The population density was 19.1 people per square mile (7.37/kmē), making it the tenth least densely populated county in Wisconsin. There were 12582 housing units at an average density of 15.3 per square mile (5.91/kmē). The average household size was 2.33 persons, and the average family size was 2.8 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 22.1% under the age of 18, 6% from 18 to 24, 23.2% from 25 to 44, 28.4% from 45 to 64, and 20.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 101.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.3 males. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 16196, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 92.73% White, 0.52% Black or African American, 4.82% American Indian, 0.3% Asian, 0.08% Native Hawaiian, and 1.54% from two or more races.
